The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has paid GHc5000 to help restore the eyesight of a policeman.
The officer, whose identity is currently unknown, was in need of the money to help save his sight, but his superiors were unable to help him out.
According to the MP, the search for help for the police officer went on till it came to his attention.
Describing the situation as very worrying, he indicated that he received a call from an unknown phone number, and the caller pleaded for medical assistance to save his sight.
He revealed that the caller mentioned he had GHc3000, but needed GHc5000 more for the eye surgery.
“I instructed him to go to the doctor and tell him I will pay the money by Monday, February 5, 2018, and this morning I am going to pay the money” he said on Accra-based Net 2 TV.
The lawmaker further argued that lack of protection for the junior ranks is the cause of the numerous deaths of officers, as well as corruption in the service.
“I don’t blame them; rather, I blame the senior ones because they have become careless and have taken the junior ones for granted.
A police officer who has risen to chief inspector cannot even afford a surgery”, he lamented.
He continued that the officer had undergone the surgery and has called to him of the new development.
