A former High Commissioner, Dr. Sylvester Ankama, has died after being knocked by a vehicle driven by a Police officer.
The renowned lawyer, who is based in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region, could not survive despite being admitted at the hospital after the accident.
The sad incident occurred in front of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly on Tuesday when Sergeant Alfred Owusu Asare, was on his way to work.
According to an account by the Brong Ahafo Regional Commander of the MTTD, Superintendent Stella Sedame, the police officer tried to save the 83-year-old lawyer after knocking him down.
He explained that the Policeman rushed the lawyer to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital where he was admitted and later reported the incident at the Police Station.
However, the lawyer gave up the ghost the following morning – Wednesday – due to severe injuries he sustained.
Sergeant Alfred Owusu Asare was subsequently detained and his statement taken, with an investigation being set up into the matter.
The body of the late Dr. Sylvester Ankama has since been deposited at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital morgue
The deceased was a onetime Ghana’s High Commissioner to India during the Dr. Limann administration, as well as a senior practitioner at the Ebenezer Legal Services.
He was also a Rev. Minister at the Bethel Prayer Ministry, before his untimely demise.
