President John Agyekum Kufuor got married to his wife, Theresa Mensah, in 1962.
It has been almost 56 years of marriage, in which Kufuor and Madam Kufuor got to be president and first lady of Ghana respectively.
A photo of the two on their wedding day has surfaced online, drawing tonnes of positive remarks from social media users.
The photo shows a young and handsome Kufuor and a stunning Theresa holding hands and smiling excitedly.
Kufuor wore a black suit while Theresa wore a white wedding gown.
Several Ghanaians who saw the photo on social media said they had been inspired by it.
They lavished praises on Kufuor and his wife for staying married to each other for so many decades.
The former first couple, they said, is an example and a model for many young Ghanaians today.
Apart from praising Kufuor and his wife, many Ghanaians also prayed for long life and good health for them.
“Wow. Look at that decent wedding gown on Aunty Theresa. Long life to you two,” one social media user, Akua, said.
“Mama Theresa, you are really a good woman. May the Almighty God give you and your husband good health and long life,” another social media user, Blessing, said.
Former president Kufuor, 79, has been been playing a passive role in politics since he left office in 2008.
He was recently appointed the chancellor of the University of Mine and Technology (UMaT)
Madam Kufuor, 82, has largely kept out of the public eye.
