The official bodyguard of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda, has heroically foiled an attempt by armed robbers to snatch the minister’s official vehicle.
The bodyguard, who is a police officer, shot and killed one member of the robbery gang which had mounted a road block in a bid to rob them last Thursday night.
The bodyguard, only identified as Richard, was travelling alone with the driver to Navrongo in the Kaseena-Nankana District ahead of the burial of Mr Adda’s late mother and they used the Wa and Tumu road due to the closure of the Yapei and Buipe bridges.
Upon reaching somewhere in-between Chuchuliga and China, they bumped into a road block mounted by the three suspected robbers who demanded that the driver complied or get shot.
The bodyguard who had seen them at a distance, directed the driver to comply whilst he shifted the passenger’s seat into a position that was suitable for him to fire his gun.
Immediately the driver pulled off and lowered his glass, the bodyguard fired killing one of them on the spot while the other two bolted into some bushes around.
Police in Navrongo have confirmed the incident saying the deceased’s body had been taken to the WAR Memorial Hospital in Navrongo for preservation and they are hunting for the others.
The Minister, who is also the MP for Navrongo Central, YEN.com.gh understands, was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack because he was expected to travel by air to be picked up at the Tamale airport the next morning.
