Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was the first prime minister and president of Ghana, having led it to independence in 1957.
This picture is believed to have been taken soon after Kwame Nkrumah’s return to the then Gold Coast now Ghana in 1947.
The picture shows a young Nkrumah sitting in a chair with his mother, Madam Elizabeth Nyaniba sitting close beside him. It appears to be a professional photo because both mother and son had posed for the cameras.
Kwame Nkrumah was noted to be a family man and gave priority to his family.
At the age of 48, he took for a wife, Fathia Helen Ritzk who was then 25 years old and a student of the University of Cairo.
