Avram Grant has resigned his position as coach of the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars.
Grant had just a month left on his two-year contract.
The former Chelsea coach took Ghana to the final of the 2015 AFCON but failed to achieve further success with the team.
Ghana risks missing out on the World Cup in 2018 for the first time in 12 years, following a disastrous showing by the Black Stars under Grant’s leadership in the first two matches of qualification.
The team’s performance at AFCON 2017 was also criticised by many Ghanaians who deemed the fourth place finish a poor result for an African football power.
Grant’s resignation will be welcomed by many Ghanaians who have called for his resignation in recent days, including former Ghana defender, Sammy Kufuor.
