According to Mr Baako, apart from changing the designations of some of his ministers, President Akufo-Addo was also going to cut down on the number of ministers in his government.

Looking into my crystal ball, it [size of government] is going to drop“, YEN.com.gh heard him reveal on Joy FM’s Newsfile on Saturday.

President Akufo-Addo raised eyebrows with his appointment of 110 ministers in the early days of his government.

Having told Ghanaians that his government was left with very little fiscal space to operate, many were those who felt the record number of appointments was an unnecessary burden on the country’s struggling economy.

Government responded to the criticisms saying the high number of ministers were needed to execute the many ambitious programmes and policies it had put together.

With some of the programmes and policies all rolled out, it looks like the Akufo-Addo is now bent on downsizing and Mr Baako believes such a situation was to expected.

From day one, we knew it would drop and it going, meaning that some people will be reshuffled, some would change portfolios and some will go home and take a rest”, he told Newsfile host, Samson Lardy Ayenini.

He advised appointees in the Akufo-Addo government not to be distrubed by his revealtion of of an impending reshuffle because “it [reshuffle] is a feature of political appointments“.

The 110 ministerial appointments, it must be noted, is unprecedented in the history of Ghana as no government, prior to the current one, had ever topped 90 ministerial appointments.
