Lately Ghanaians have witnessed a few scandalous affairs and – unfortunately – some have had to do with popular men of God. Some scandals have had the effect of making believers reconsider the way they see these “shepherds of the Christian flock”, so YEN put together a list of seven such pastors who’s actions or utterances made us question the veracity of their faith.
In this day and age of superstar pastors who own private jets, and others who ask members of their congregations to bring to church their used underwear for a prayer service it’s sometimes hard for a some Christians to know which church is the “right” one to call their own.
So without further ado, checkout a list of six pastors who said and/or did things to make Ghanaians question their Christianity.
Matthew Ashimolowo – Dr. Mensah Otabil
Though not as scandalous as the others, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo and Dr. Mensa Otabils controversial decision to accept “special offerings” during ICGC’s Greater Works conference held in Accra in late July. Members were urged to pay sums of up to $5,000 for special prayer, but while many defended the two pastor’s move, some defended them saying that the offerings were a test of faith.
Prophet Badu Kobi
Prophet Badu Kobi, during an interview on the Delay Show this year, made several comments that got some wondering exactly what brand of Christianity he practices. The well known prophet – who’s reportedly been ministering since 1998 – stated something to the effect that one being involved in the illicit cocaine business is not a sin.
Bishop Dag Heward-Mills
Bishop Dag Heward Mills shocked Ghanaians not too long ago when he made comments to the effect that oral sex is perfectly fine with biblical law. According to the outspoken man of God, there’s no law in the bible that prohibits the act. Though the well known pastor may be right with regards to biblical law, his comments still got some wonder exactly how a devout man of got the idea to preach such controversial information.
Prophet Nicholas Osei, popularly known as Kumchacha, has been in the news a lot in recent times, but perhaps most glaring instance where his devotion to the Christian faith was most questioned was when a video and subsequent report emerged of him almost trading blows with Raggae musician, Ekow Micah. He’s also known to have said publicly that he “licks” his wife prior to going to preach, words many have said would not never be uttered by a true man of God.
Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah
Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah has always been a somewhat controversial man of God due to his firebrand style of Christianity. Nevertheless, he recently shocked Ghanaians when he stated that he didn’t believe Jesus Christ is the son of God. Though he has since denied made these comments, many already began questioning his Christian credibility due to his comments.
Bishop Angel Obinim
If we were to write down everything Ghanaians found questioning about Bishop Angel Obinim then this article would end up being pretty long, so we’ll stick to his most recent scandal. Bishop Angle Obinim recently asked his congregation to bring their underwear so he could pray over them. Now if that wouldn’t make one question their pastor’s Christianity, we don’t know what would.
